International Yoga Celebrity to Visit Palos Heights Library June 13

Marsha Wenig to Present “Reach for the Sun,” a Lecture for Families

Palos Heights Resident Maureen Collins, a YogaKids Trainer, to Introduce Children Ages 3 to 12 to Yoga

(Michigan City, IN – May 9, 2007) Children and parents will ‘reach for the sun’ and try other movements that promote fitness, fun and feeling great on June 13 when Marsha Wenig, the world’s leading authority on yoga for children visits the Palos Heights Library. Ms. Wenig will present, “Reach for the Sun: An Introduction to the Benefits of Yoga for Children, Families & Schools,” 7-8:30 p.m. Registration is required and continues through June 8. Contact or visit the Palos Heights Library, 12501 S. 71st Ave., to sign up for the free program or for more information (Phone: 708/448-1473).

Palos Heights resident Maureen Collins, a certified YogaKids trainer, will be featured at the event. The program will include a short lecture by Wenig, Q&A, and opportunities for kids to experience the benefits of yoga as they try poses to energize, calm and promote concentration. Collins will organize children into age groups: 3 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12, and work with them as they experiment with yoga. The event will include a book signing and option to purchase Wenig’s YogaKids: Educating the Whole Child Through Yoga (now in its 2nd printing). YogaKids will donate part of the proceeds of book sales from the event to the Palos Heights Library. Healthy refreshments, provided courtesy of Panini XpressO Coffee House of Palos Heights, will be served.

Wenig will discuss how the yoga education program and methods she developed to meet the specific needs of children deliver physical, emotional and social benefits. She will also cover the many societal and cultural pressures young children, teens and families face, and how yoga can help children and adults manage stress, promote well being and foster self-esteem. As part of the lecture, Ms. Wenig will discuss the value of yoga in the classroom and how parents, schools and communities can collaborate to create the best possible learning atmosphere for children.

Ms. Wenig is CEO and founder of YogaKids International, Inc., the premier yoga fitness and education program for children, a two-time winner of the Parent’s Choice Award.
