Palos Heights, Illinois June 7, 2007 Program at Heights library will delve yoga for kidsAn international yoga celebrity will visit the Palos Heights Public Library on Wednesday, June 13, to sign books and discuss yoga for children. Marsha Wenig will present "Reach for the Sun," a lecture for families, while Palos Heights resident Maureen Collins, a YogaKids trainer, introduces children to yoga. The program will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the library. Registration is required and continues through June 8. Contact or visit the library, 12501 S. 71st Ave., to sign up for the free program. Collins, of Palos Heights, a certified YogaKids trainer and protégé of Wenig's, will be featured at the event. The program will include a short lecture by Wenig and opportunities for children to experience the benefits of yoga as they try poses to energize, calm and promote concentration. Collins will organize children into age groups: 3 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12, and work with them as they experiment with yoga. The event will include a book signing and option to purchase Wenig's book. Wenig will discuss how the yoga education program and the methods she developed to meet the specific needs of children deliver physical, emotional and social benefits. She will also cover the many societal and cultural pressures young children, teens and families face, and how yoga can help children and adults manage stress, promote well being and foster self-esteem. As part of the lecture, Ms. Wenig will discuss the value of yoga in the classroom and how parents, schools and communities can collaborate to create the best possible learning atmosphere for children.
