FAQs
Do I have to attend a 1-day seminar to go to a 4-day Foundations training or to become Certified?
No, you can just start with Foundations! While the 1-day seminars are fun and helpful for those who just want a few tools to use with their children, grandchildren, students or clients, our Foundations course is a fun and information-packed 4-day Foundations meant for those who really want to start tapping into the best yoga-for-children education available by learning many tools to help children and gain greater comfort teaching children.
Where are the Foundations trainings held?
All over the world! Please check our calendar for a training that is convenient for you. We have trainings in the United States and internationally!
Can I use YogaKids to teach older (7-12) children?
Absolutely! While our current videos are aimed at younger children, during our trainings, we teach people how to use YogaKids methods on kids from 3 to teen agers!
If I take the Foundations training, do I have to take Advanced Training?
In order to become Certified you must take one of the Certification Trainings (either ATP or ATI) and fulfill all of the requirements to YKI's standards.
Are there pre-requisites? Do I have to know yoga or be a teacher to take this program?
We ask that you bring an open heart and your love for children. One year yoga experience is very helpful, but not required. Once you are in Advanced Training, you must commit to studying with a qualified yoga teacher in your area at least once a week, but preferably 2-3 times.
How do I find a mentor?
A mentor, who is a Certified YogaKids Teacher (CYKT), is assigned to you upon completion of Foundations. Whenever possible, they will be in your geographic area.
Does my mentor have to live in my area?
No. You communicate with your mentor through e-mail, mail and phone and in person at times.
How long does it take to complete Advanced Training?
Most trainees take 6-9 months to complete Advanced Training. Advanced Training Intensives, the second part of Advanced Training, are scheduled 3-4 times a year to fit your schedule. This period allows for life’s situations, family and other commitments. Some people have completed the program in 5 months with incredible focus and commitment.
How many Advanced Training: Intensive Workshops are offered a year?
Typically two or three.
How do I find a location to teach YogaKids?
Anywhere children gather – schools, libraries, YMCA’s, yoga centers, fitness centers, your home, Boys and Girl’s Clubs, places of worship, playgroups, Girl Scouts, day care centers. The possibilities are endless and new doors open everyday.
Can the entire program be taken through a work study or correspondence program?
No. The Advanced Training Practicum is done at home, however its pre-requisite, Foundation Training, does require physical attendance. The Advanced Training Intensive Workshop (ATI) also requires physical attendance.
How do I find a YogaKids teacher in my areas?
Use the Find a Teacher page to locate the closest Certified YogaKids Facilitator to you.
Is YogaKids recognized by Yoga Alliance?
Yes, but not as a 200-hour Registered Yoga School. You can no longer accumulate YogaKids Certification Program hours toward the Yoga Alliance’s 200-hour Independent Study Option as they have removed that registration method effective January 1, 2006. However, if you are a RYT with Yoga Alliance, you can apply any YogaKids Certification Program hours, Taste, Teen, or Tools for Schools training hours, or Foundations hours to your CE requirements. Yoga Alliance has plans to publish a 100-hour Specialization in Yoga for Children. They haven’t released their time line for doing so, however. When they do, all YogaKids hours (same as CE) will apply towards this designation. In the future, YogaKids International will apply for the 200-hour Registered Yoga School designation with Yoga Alliance. We will make updates to this information as soon as we receive it.
Does the price of the program include accommodations?
The costs include tuition only, but we work with hotels near the training sites to try and secure discounts for our students.
